You see, I wasn’t born with an innate talent for music. I struggled. I couldn’t catch a tune, and rhythm seemed like a distant language. But there was something inside me that refused to give up on the dream of expressing myself through music. So, I embarked on a relentless journey to bridge the gap between where I was and where I wanted to be. Along the way, I had the privilege of learning from some incredible educators.

What sets my teaching approach apart is that it’s born from my own struggles. I’ve discovered how to guide individuals through their musical challenges and help them find their path to success. One of the most eye-opening lessons was realizing that there are various learning styles, each unique and valuable. I delved into the world of visual, auditory, written, and kinesthetic learning styles and tailored my teaching to be universally effective.

My journey has taken me to renowned institutions like the University of Utah, Ohio State University, Michigan State University, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Motown Museum, and many more. Students often told me they learned the most during those impromptu post-class sessions where we shared stories and lessons. It was these moments that inspired me to create ‘Office Hours with Kris Johnson,’ offering students worldwide the opportunity to benefit from this personalized approach.

I’ve designed this platform to focus on topics I believe are essential for today’s musicians. Leveraging my expertise in technology and my commitment to accommodating different learning styles, I’ve created pre-recorded videos complemented by detailed handouts and tools.
